Human E.T.
Human ET follows artist Jasko Begovic, known as Sko Habibi, and the body of work he created for Oakland Roots and Oakland Soul — textile sculptures bridging fashion and soccer that were later featured in SFMOMA's Get in the Game: Sports, Art, Culture exhibition. What began as a commission of a few pieces grew into more than a dozen reimagined jerseys, jackets and hats, and surfaced the cast of characters depicted in this short film. Born in Bosnia and shaped by his experience as a child refugee, Jasko weaves his story of immigration, home and identity into every piece. As Director, Calvin Gaskin filmed the artist, the process and the world behind the work.
“It's political because survival is political. It's spiritual because liberation is too.”
